Ceramiq™: our fully sintered ceramic

Many styling tools call themselves “ceramic,” but not every layer is equal.

  • Most tools: a thin layer, sprayed over a metal core.
  • Ceramiq™: a fully sintered layer. Ceramic powder fuses under high heat into one homogeneous mass, not sprayed.

That's down to thickness and consistency: sintered ceramic distributes heat more evenly, with fewer hotspots than a thin sprayed layer.

Why this is noticeable

Fewer hotspots, less local overheating while the rest of the strand is still heating up.

In practice: a more even result, fewer kinks, fewer surprises with fine or porous hair.

Heat, moisture and hydrogen bonds

Hair is mostly made of keratin: its chains are held together by hydrogen bonds, relatively weak links that decide what shape your hair takes.1

Heat and moisture loosen those bonds for a moment. Once hair cools in its new shape, the curl holds, until moisture or washing resets everything.1

Temperature makes the difference: with dry hair and direct contact, cuticle damage starts at around 150°C, and by about 230°C it's damaged beyond repair.2

The Airstyler Pro Ceramiq™ uses airflow, not a hot plate: 35°C, 70°C or 110°C, well below that threshold.

Moisture lubricates those hydrogen bonds: damp hair changes shape at less heat than dry hair.3

Advice: start with slightly damp hair.

Airflow and the curl barrel give your curl time to set, while the hair dries gently.

Air versus a hot plate

It's not just how much heat, but how it reaches your hair.

  • Straightener, conductive: a hot metal plate presses straight against your hair, all that energy on one spot.
  • Airstyler, convective: heat via moving air, by definition less concentrated.2

That's why styling with airflow is generally gentler than direct contact.

Validation in three steps

Before a curl barrel is approved, it goes through three tests: temperature, material, and real-world use.

Temperature testing

Every setting (35°C, 70°C, 110°C) is tested for stability, after heating and cooling cycles. A PTC element automatically prevents overheating.*

Material testing

The sintered ceramic layer is tested for scratch resistance and adhesion, through heating and cooling cycles. Skip scouring pads: durable, but not indestructible against abrasives.

Real-world testing

We have the product tested by hairdressers and customers, at home. That experience, combined with the lab data, decides whether a curl barrel makes the cut.

The Motion Test: durability under repeated use

A curl barrel that performs perfectly once? Not that hard. Still giving off even heat after hundreds of styling sessions, that's the challenge.

That's why every design undergoes an internal endurance test: the Motion Test.

Safety and quality control

Electrical safety

Every Airstyler Pro Ceramiq™ leaves the factory only after electrical safety checks at 1300W. Tested for:

  • Insulation
  • Grounding
  • Overheat protection

Quality control per batch

Every batch also gets its own sample, checked for temperature accuracy and the finish of the ceramic layer.

Only batches that are just as good as the first one go on sale.
